MetroPCS Communications Shares Could Hit 12 in the Next Year: Barron’s

MetroPCS shares closed at $8.72 on Friday on the New York Stock Exchange but could reach $12 next year, according to the financial weekly.

Prepaid wireless subscribers grew 16 percent in the first quarter of 2010, well above the 3 percent growth in postpaid monthly contracts.

Sprint prepaid mobile offered at Walmart: Trend towards no contract phone service on the rise
Sprint is jumping on the pre-paid mobile service bandwagon. Walmart started selling the new "Common Cents Mobile" service at about 700 of its US stores on May 15.

With the growing trend towards contract-free mobile phone plans, Sprint's plan will be comparable to prepaid plans offered by T-Mobile.  Article here

As Growth Slows, Phone Rivals Start Dialing Up Prepaid Services

The big U.S. wireless carriers—risking profits for growth— are moving more aggressively into the low end of the cellphone market: Selling services to consumers without requiring them to sign contracts.

Sprint Nextel Corp. is rolling out new brands and plans, including a partnership with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced Thursday that will charge seven cents per minute or text message—about half as much as TracFone Wireless, the largest U.S. prepaid provider.

Telstra's prepaid Next G plans for 3G iPad: from $20/1GB to $100/12GB
telstra logoTelstra is the first Aussie carrier to reveal details of its 3G – or should we say, Next G – plans for the Apple's iPad, which launches here on May 28th.

The contract-free 'Pre-Paid SIM for Apple iPad Kit' costs $30 and includes an initial 1GB of data. Customers who activate the kit by June 30th will score an additional 2GB of data, giving you a whopping 3GB to chew through. Article Here

Sprint Nextel Adds Prepaid Cellphone Brand

sprint brandsSprint Nextel Corp. is pushing even further into low-cost, prepaid cellphone service as the U.S.'s third-largest wireless carrier by subscribers fights to hang on to traditional contract customers.

The carrier plans to launch a new and cheaper prepaid-cellphone brand, its fourth, in coming weeks and to start selling new, lower-priced plans from another of its prepaid labels.

Sprint touts cut-rate wireless plan - with a catch
Aiming to boost its customer base, the nation's third largest mobile carrier plans to charge $25 a month for its new Beyond Talk plan. Rival carriers typically charge about $80 to $90 a month for similar services on a contract basis. Article Here
